OK, folks, here's your big chance. The Observer's e-mail system is down for a second day. We're told that whenever it comes back, there's a chance we'll lose anything sent since Friday.
To you, that means: OPPORTUNITY! That's because our stash of letters to the editor and Buzz items for the editorial pages is empty. The competition for getting your letters and Buzz items published will be much, much easier. In other words, the lottery odds got better.
Feel free to tell any and all friends, neighbors, family, co-workers and the folks you meet in the grocery store checkout line.
Remember, letters to the editor should be 150 words or less and include your name, address and daytime phone number - we don't publish them but we use them for verification. Getting your facts straight is a big plus. So is avoiding libel. We reserve the right to edit for brevity, accuracy and correct English. We put a thumb on the scale for letters that are different from our editorial opinions.
Send them to thecharlotteobserver@yahoo.com. Our trusty Forum editors are standing by.

Mary, why not ask the technicians who support his Observer blog if they can block the incoming IP address of the dimwits who insist on posting lewd comments? Then do it!
If they complain that their freedom to act like an ass is being violated, let them back in after they've come down to the Observer in person and apologized.
you mean the same technicians that can't get their email back up in two days?
sure.
Maybe the Obscene Commentor is the Observer Email Hacker?
Gotta love 12:49's complaint about ad hominems that includes two ad hominems.
So everything sent in the past 5 days no longer exists.
Glad to see those budget cuts from Sacremento are working out so well. Next thing you know, the corporate hanchos will tell the newspapers to print the same number of newspapers with less newsprint.
Gotta love the corporate hanchos - the more business you bring in, the more they cut staff to save money. Then they can't figure out why employees are frustrated when none of their stuff works.
Notice that my alleged "ad hominems" have not been deleted by Mary? How's that for proof that they aren't ad hominems?
Furthermore, how would you know whether they were an attack on someone's character unless you are the character with those attributes?
